From what I can see in photographs, a Canadian Car & Foundry Mail Express like a 3600 series RPO and a heavyweight single window steel coach were tagged onto the daily mixed train. I have been slowly collecting parts to scratch build my own (and I may still do that). Continue Reading
Making Street Lights
I’m working on some details to help me get some views right around the swing bridge before I start constructing scenery. At this point I don’t have many photographs that show the street lights so I had to measure and estimate. Made with a pin, brass, staple wire, accurail bolster Continue Reading
Building a Swing Bridge Shed
I’m starting building construction on module 1 today beginning with the smallest building on near the backdrop. I’m calling it the swing bridge shed but I’m not really sure what it did – I’m guessing it was used for communications with the bridge operator. The white shed beside the Little Continue Reading
Painting Earth & Sky
A coat of paint can make all the difference for a layout under construction. I’m really fond of choosing standard colours to help speed up the process. It also makes it easier to find a match later. I use latex paint and I keep the paint chips handy for future Continue Reading
RS-10 Touchups & Weathering
I’ve been working on one of the primary locomotives that will be used for the Little Current Mixed Train while layout construction is underway. This is a used Proto 2000 RS-10 I bought with a few dings. A few minor modifications and touchups are blended in with some light weathering Continue Reading
Finishing the Facia
I’ve started staining and varnishing the facia to give it a more finished appearance. I’m trying this thin eco 5mm plywood with an interesting veneer wrapped around all sides of each module that will help to keep down the weight. I plan to finish it like a piece of furniture. Continue Reading
Radius Corners For Backdrop
I’m trying something new for seamless backdrops. 3D printed radius corner braces (alternately these could have been made out of styrene) covered with iron on melamine and a touch of spackle to hide the joint. This was very easy to do and helps keep the weight down. It only needed Continue Reading
RS-10 Tune Up & Decoder Install
I have lots of locomotives but a RS-10 is an important early diesel engine for my Little Current layout. I have seen several photographs of and RS-10 pulling the daily mixed train in the last years of service. I was able to by a Proto 2000 model new in box Continue Reading
Track and Wiring
Taking my to lay track and install bus wires. Track is glued down with No More Nails which if spread thinly doesn’t ooze above the ties and grabs instantly. Its pretty standards stuff. I’ve borrowed some ideas from free-mo modellers by using printed circuit boards with a tie pattern cut Continue Reading
