Manitoulin turkeys were a prized specialty and will always be on my layout. These cars may be a stretch for my Little Current model railway timeline but they are fun to have around. I got a little sidetracked over Christmas while waiting for scenery to dry and testing a few Continue Reading
Painting Rocks
Painting the rocks along the tracks and hwy 68 near the swing bridge. Most of this will probably be covered in overgrowth but I’ll be looking at it as is for awhile so I wanted to do a good job here. I got hung up on getting the colours close Continue Reading
Layout on a Postcard
An Aerial view of Little Current, ON Published by A.A. Gleason Jr of South Bay Mouth. Photo by Ed. Dreier. Undated. This is a nearly perfect a photo of the Little Current yard that I’m using as reference to build my layout. In the lower left edge cars are visible Continue Reading
Adding Photo Backdrops
Photo backdrops are now up on the first module. There is a lot of scenery and weathering add before this looks unified but its a start. I used LePage spray adhesive which was a poor idea, the photos didn’t stay attached everywhere, especially the small details. Where the backdrop came Continue Reading
CPR P1 Mikado
Prior to dieselization, CPR P1 Mikados seem to be the one of the most common locomotives I see pictured on the mixed train to Little Current. I have been looking for a good model for quite some time and managed to find a complete brass model in great running shape. Continue Reading
Using Foam to Make Land Forms
Fixing the track alignment has lead to shaping some of the only land forms on the Little Current layout. Cube shapes are cut with a sharp xacto blade and glued down with no more nails. I find this method helps to add some randomness. To keep each module light I’m Continue Reading
Reworking the Track Plan
I had a feeling when I first laid this track that I would need to make some changes to the Imperial Oil spur. I have replaced the original with a turnout I modified that allows for better alignment and elevation to match what I see in aerial photos. This would Continue Reading
Building the Little Current Loading Ramp
This week I’m working on the loading ramp in the Little Current Yard. I’m still not clear to me what kind of material was used for. My best guess is some sort of gravel fill based on the light colour of the material around the loading area. The ramp is Continue Reading
Building a GRS Searchlight Signal
Progress on the Little Current Layout Continues. This week I’m building a GRS style searchlight signal that is near the swing bridge. The photo etched parts are very small, but with a jig to hold square it wasn’t too bad. Wish I took more photos of the parts going together Continue Reading
