I made a batch of birch trees using super tree armatures as well as other more generic trees. I start by trimming the super tree armatures, removing leaves and slecting the most tree like shapes. I spray these with 2 or 3 different brown and grey rattle cans. Next I Continue Reading
Layout Upldates
Little Current Model Railway layout project updates
Conifer Trees
For this layout I decided to try a new method to make evergreen trees. This layout is small, so I think taking time to add detailed trees is definitely worth it. These trees are made by untwisting jute twine into its individual fibers and laying between a piece of florists Continue Reading
Aerial Postcards
Aerial photos are so handy. For model railways, they show you details from a perspective that allows you to measure, reference locations, and view what you are modelling at a similar angle. Postcards can be a great source for these shots. This fall I plan to build the Imperial Oil Continue Reading
A Place For (Mostly) Everything

Postcard Photo Backdrop
Very happy to have picked up an original postcard of the Little Current swing bridge. Photo by Ed. Dreier, Copyright A.A. Gleason Jr., South Bay Mouth, Ontario. I used a lower quality digital copy I had at the time for the backdrop. If I could go back in time I Continue Reading
Street Signs
Little Current has some very specific signs that I need to make. I created a series of decals this from a photographs of full size highway signs, and applied them to scrap styrene that I painted. Hardest part was cutting out the sign shape. I’m not sure if these signs Continue Reading
Weathering HWY 68
The road surface is 120 grit belt sandpaper painted with Vallejo warm grey colours. The shoulders are sand that I painted the same. I’m weathering hwy 68 to match the backdrop photo this week with powders and matte acrylic clear coat. Lots more to add still. Its interesting trying to Continue Reading
