For this layout I decided to try a new method to make evergreen trees. This layout is small, so I think taking time to add detailed trees is definitely worth it.
These trees are made by untwisting jute twine into its individual fibers and laying between a piece of florists wire folded in half. I place this trunk part into the chuck of a slow moving drill, pinch the top with a pair of pliers and gently spin until the branches look well distributed.
I paint the armatures rustoleum camouflage brown colours combined with a light overcoat of any flat grey spray paint.
I carefully spray the armature with spray adhesive and sprinkle on some ground foam. I try to do this mostly from the top at a slight angle to keep the ground foam off the trunk and maintain some openess. I will lightly airbrush or mist a rattle can on a few of them to give a slight amount of variation in colour.
